With the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/CAMEROUN) and the World Conservation Union/Lake Chad Basin Commission (IUCN/CBLT), the project entitled « Trees to halt the advance of the desert and fight against wood cutting in the Makary district » was jointly implemented by WESDE and ADREN.
The first phase of the project consisted of training the members of the Technical Committee for Tree Management called Team Leaders, the preparation of sites and the planting of seedlings, which included the following activities to complete the project in good conditions: periodic watering, maintenance, protection of seedlings, participatory delimitation of cultivation and grazing areas, organisation of negotiation and conflict management sessions between the different interest groups, organisation of monitoring and evaluation meetings.
